Author: Kara Powell
Published Date: 2019-03-05

Our hope-filled prayer is that this book helps you avoid the outright lie that it's too late to adjust your parenting. That the ship has sailed. That you've missed the boat. Growing With parenting isn't about preserving the past or predicting the future (like either of those was even possible) as much as it is about cultivating our relationships with our kids where they are today--in real time. Growing With parenting is a mutual journey of intentional growth--for both ourselves and our children--that trusts God to transform us all. Growing up doesn't mean growing apart. It means Growing With.As a parent of a teenager or young adult, you may feel as though you're guessing about what to do next--with mixed results. You want to stay connected with your maturing child, but you're not sure how. And deep down, you fear your child doesn't want or need you.Based on brand-new research and interviews with remarkable families, Growing With equips you to take steps toward your teenager or young adult in a mutual journey of intentional growth that trusts God to transform your entire family. By highlighting three groundbreaking strategies, authors Kara Powell and Steven Argue show that it's never too early or too late to· accept the child you have, not the child you wish you had· work toward solutions rather than only identifying problems· develop empathy that nudges rather than judges· fight for your child, not against them· connect your child with a faith and a church big enough to handle their doubts and struggles· dive into tough discussions about dating, career, and financesunleash your child's passions and talents to change our world|

Parenting that changes your kids and changes you.
Many parents of a teenager or young adult feel as though they're guessing about what to do next--with mixed results. We want to stay connected with our maturing child, but we're not sure how. And deep down, we fear our child doesn't want or need us. But growing up doesn't have to mean growing apart.

Based on brand-new research and interviews with remarkable families, Growing With equips parents to take steps toward their teenagers and young adults in a mutual journey of intentional growth that trusts God to transform them all. By highlighting three groundbreaking family strategies, authors Kara Powell and Steven Argue show parents that it's never too early or too late to

- accept the child you have, not the child you wish you had
- work toward solutions rather than only identifying problems
- develop empathy that nudges rather than judges
- fight for your child, not against them
- connect your children with a faith and church big enough to handle their doubts and struggles
- dive into tough discussions about dating, career, and finances
- and unleash your child's passions and talents to change our world

For any parent who longs for their kids to keep their roots even as they spread their wings, Growing With offers practical help and hope for the days--and years--ahead.

"Kara and Steve approach the topic of parenting with sound biblical wisdom and valuable practical tools. I will be applying these insights to my own parenting in these rapidly changing times."--Christine Caine, bestselling author; founder of A21 and Propel Women

"There is no joy or challenge or burden like that of parenthood. We're drowning in information; we crave wisdom. Growing With has both. It is an outstanding book."--John Ortberg, senior pastor of Menlo Church; author of I'd Like You More If You Were More Like Me

Practical, Personal, Home Run! If you are a parent of a Gen Z or Millennial student, this is a wonderful resource. Steve and Kara take research and personal experience and blend them beautifully together in this new resource for churches and families. I'm a Pastor and received an advance copy of this book. It was shocking how after just a few chapters how often the stuff I was reading applied to parents and students I was interacting with. You want something practical for your parenting, this is the book you want. I guarantee you will be begging your friends/church to start a book club with this resource. This is a MUST READ!! “Growing With” is absolutely brilliant!I’m a veteran youth worker who has been serving in student ministry for over a decade (in the same location). As a youth worker, I trust the resources produced by the Fuller Youth Institute. I trust the voices of Kara Powell and Steve Argue. Kara and Steve are what I would call, “Triple Threats.” They are experienced and seasoned youth workers, they are parents, and they are researchers. “Growing With” encompasses all three of these.I’m so thankful for the work of the Fuller Youth Institute. I’m thankful for voices like Kara and Steve. I’m thankful for Growing With a resource that has already been so powerful for not only me as a youth worker, but also as a parent (with 3 “learners” at home.)If you have teenagers in your home…If you currently have tinier humans who will one day turn into teenagers…If you are a grandparent, aunt uncle, etc… (you have teenagers in your family…or preteens)…If you’re in student ministry…If you work with teenagers or others in the emerging generation…If you care about teenagers and young adults……get this book.

Fraternity Download

ISBN: 1101986727
Title: Fraternity Pdf An Inside Look at a Year of College Boys Becoming Men
Author: Alexandra Robbins
Published Date: 2019-02-05
Page: 384

“Alexandra Robbins...spent a year documenting Greek life for her excellent new book, Fraternity.... Robbins makes the case that fraternities are not monolothic and that, done right, they can be healthy spaces.”—Mother Jones“Fraternity, an unfiltered, candid examination of toxic masculinity in Greek life, is absolutely a product of the #MeToo movement—yet there are no villains or clear bad guys. Writing an anti-fraternity manifesto would likely have been an infinitely easier choice for Robbins, but it wasn’t the path she took. Instead, she sought successfully to weave hope from chaos.”—Ms. Magazine"[A] well-researched, even-handed book...[with] admirable reportorial balance." —The Daily Beast"I truly believe that Alexandra Robbins is the greatest non-fiction author of our time. By focusing her writing on the subjective narratives of ‘characters’ who appear as case studies, her books read as novels with critical analysis essays interspersed throughout. Her craftsmanship is unparalleled.”—Melissa Fabello, PhD, former Managing Editor of Everyday Feminism and author of Appetite"Robbins offers the most compelling, pro-student approach to the future of fraternities being presented through mainstream media at this point in time. More than any representative of any fraternity, any umbrella association, or any association president, Robbins is our most articulate, informed and capable advocate in 2019."—FraternityMan.com“A thoughtful, important take.”—People“Skillfully paced...This engaging behind-the-scenes account of fraternities, their traditions, and how they influence (a certain strain of) American men will interest college-bound students, their parents, and readers contemplating American culture.”—Publishers Weekly“Investigative journalist Robbins takes readers on an eye-opening tour of contemporary college fraternities. Highlighting the changing roles and unique pressures millennial males are currently facing, Robbins recounts a year in the life of two committed fraternity brothers...Her energetic prose and dramatic insider's perspective will keep readers both captivated and well informed.” —Booklist“Compelling profiles of men navigating the processes and pressures of rushing, pledging, and troubleshooting the hypermasculine fraternity culture and the rigid guidelines of collegiate social engagement...Much of the material will be useful and informative for college-prep students and their parents (a final section provides advice for both groups). Real-life perspectives on the immersive, unifying, and chancy culture of fraternities.”—Kirkus Reviews“A riveting read.”—Shelf Awareness Alexandra Robbins is the author of five New York Times bestsellers. An award-winning investigative reporter and speaker, she has written for outlets including The New York Times, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, The Washington Post, and The Atlantic. Among other honors, Robbins has received Goodreads’ 2011 Best Nonfiction Book of the Year Award, the John Bartlow Martin Award for Public Interest Magazine Journalism, and the Heartsongs Award for “contributions to the mental health of children and young adults.”

The New York Times bestselling author of Pledged is back with an unprecedented fly-on-the-wall look inside fraternity houses from current brothers’ perspectives—and a fresh, riveting must-read about what it’s like to be a college guy today.

Two real-life stories. One stunning twist. Meet Jake, a studious freshman weighing how far to go to find a brotherhood that will introduce him to lifelong friends and help conquer his social awkwardness; and Oliver, a hardworking chapter president trying to keep his misunderstood fraternity out of trouble despite multiple run-ins with the police.

Their year-in-the-life stories help explain why students are joining fraternities in record numbers despite scandalous headlines. To find out what it’s like to be a fraternity brother in the twenty-first century, Robbins contacted hundreds of brothers whose chapters don’t make headlines—and who suggested that many fraternities can be healthy safe spaces for men.

Fraternity is more than just a page-turning, character-driven read. It’s a vital book about the transition from boyhood to manhood; it brilliantly weaves psychology, current events, neuroscience, and interviews to explore the state of masculinity today, and what that means for students and their parents. It’s a different kind of story about college boys, a story in which they candidly discuss sex, friendship, social media, drinking, peer pressure, gender roles, and even porn. And it’s a book about boys at a vulnerable age, living on their own for perhaps the first time. Boys who, in a climate that can stigmatize them merely for being male, don’t necessarily want to navigate the complicated, coming-of-age journey to manhood alone.

Significant and timely Been out of the collegiate arena for 25 years and naively assumed fraternity hazing has lessened. The onslaught of social media has made it much worse...everyone should read this book. Only thing irritating is Robbins calls members 'deactivated' when they are let go from chapters. This term is inaccurate and an insult. People are not bombs...Fairly in-depth review of positives and negatives Liked the stories and the in-depth review of an American institutionPledge yourself to ordering this book Alexandra Robbins has done her research with this well-written book about what life is really like for fraternity boys today. She follows fraternity members, two in particular detail, over the course of a year and interweaves their experiences into greater commentary of issues such as hazing and sexual harassment. Such topics hold greater interest for the reader than they otherwise might when correlated with the boys' stories.I loved Robbins' "Pledged" book from several years ago, but like this one even better because of its nuanced views. Robbins is quick to explain that there are bad fraternities and there are good fraternities and there are everything in-between; they can't all be painted with one brush. And I'd never before considered how so-called "lower-tier" houses may offer healthier environments due to their lack of competitive pressures.Something small but powerful that I also appreciated in Robbins' book is that she refers to these young fraternity members as "boys" instead of men. She explains how research shows how the brains of young males are still developing in their late teenage years, making them more vulnerable to social pressures of groups like fraternities. This can be a life-changing good thing or bad thing, depending on the fraternity. What definitely is a good thing is this book. I have no hesitations in recommending it.

3rd Grade Common Core Math: Daily Practice Workbook - Part II: Free Response | 1000+ Practice Questions and Video Explanations | Argo Brothers

Each question is labeled with the specific common core standard so both parents and teachers can use this workbook for their student(s). This workbook takes the Common Core State Standards and divides them up among 20 weeks. By working on these problems on a daily basis, students will be able to (1) find any deficiencies in their understanding and/or practice of math and (2) have small successes each day that will build competence and confidence in their abilities.

Videos are lacking The only reason I didn't give this workbook an additional star is that the videos that are offered with the book are lacking, I like the book itself and the format. If your child wants help with one of the questions and wants help from someone other than the parent or teacher, the video may or may not teach the math concept behind the problem. Some of the questions on the video are just someone reading the problem and the answer with no explanation. Overall I like the book though and would recommend it.Errors in workbook!!! Disappointed with this math workbook. Had plenty of great reviews, however we have been working in the book and many problems are not numbered correctly making it confusing and difficult to use and grade. Much better resources that have no errors out there for similar price. Wish I could return but didn't notice until we started writing in it. It is obvious that no time was put into the final product and the editing process. Many of these errors were caught by an 8 year old.Very happy with the 3rd grade books Got this recently for my third grader to supplement with extra math practice at home and he has actually said that he really likes it! In math, as with many things, practice is really important to solidify understanding of various concepts. Very happy with the 3rd grade books.
